Killeavy Castle Estate wins Sustainable Tourism Award at All-Ireland Sustainability Awards 2023

- Posted on: 13/10/2023 - $itemValue.title

Killeavy Castle Estate is thrilled to have won the award for Sustainable Tourism & Hospitality Initiative of the Year at the prestigious All-Ireland Sustainability Awards 2023.

This esteemed accolade applauds Killeavy Castle Estate's unwavering dedication to sustainable tourism practices and recognises the transformative sustainability efforts that the team at Killeavy Castle Estate have made, spanning operations across the entire hotel and estate.

The All-Ireland Sustainability Awards showcase and celebrate businesses and organisations that are tackling the sustainability agenda for themselves. The awards ceremony, a hallmark event in the sustainability realm, was held on 15 June 2023.

Speaking about the win, the General Manager of Killeavy Castle Estate, Matthew Hynds, said:

"Winning the Sustainable Tourism Award at the All-Ireland Sustainability Awards 2023 is an extraordinary honour for us. At our core, we view sustainability not just as a choice, but as a responsibility to safeguard our environment and enrich the experiences of our guests.

“This award recognises our exceptional commitment to environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and sustainable living and serves as a reminder of how much we have and can achieve in promoting sustainable tourism.”

Since opening its doors in 2019, Killeavy Castle Estate has continuously championed the cause of sustainability, pioneering initiatives that reverberate through every facet of our operations and in key areas including:

Plastic Revolution and Energy Evolution

Killeavy Castle Estate embarked on an ambitious journey to drastically reduce its reliance on single-use plastics and curb carbon emissions. Imbued with an ethos of environmental responsibility and sustainability in our practices, the estate pledged to minimise its ecological footprint. Our success in slashing single-use plastic waste, lowering energy consumption, and curtailing carbon emissions spurs us on in our mission to reach net zero.

Holistic Waste Management and Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Killeavy Castle Estate's mission extends beyond the traditional bounds of hospitality. A robust waste management strategy, encompassing efficient recycling, composting, and repurposing, has become a hallmark of our estate's commitment to sustainability. Innovative eco-friendly practices, from providing electric transportation and charging points for guests to utilising cutting-edge building energy management systems, underscore our determination to redefine sustainable luxury.

Biodiversity and Community Enrichment

Killeavy Castle Estate not only championed ecological sustainability within its boundaries but also demonstrated a profound dedication to community engagement and biodiversity conservation. Collaborative partnerships with local entities, such as the Forestry Service, The Woodland Trust, and Newry Mourne District Council, demonstrate the estate's role as a custodian of the land and its inhabitants.

"Being honoured with the Sustainable Tourism Award is a testament to the united efforts of our dedicated team and the support of our guests who share our vision for a greener, more sustainable world," added Matthew Hynds.
